left aligned imageMy name is Carol Slater and I have assisted hundreds of families, from start to finish, through the process of adopting their child from the Country of Guatemala.  I am the former Director of Children of the World, a Missouri Adoption Agency but resigned my position to relocate to Southern California so I could be closer to my family.  I am known amongst the adoption community for my ethical work, love and compassion for the children of Guatemala, and my patience and understanding with adoptive families.  I have been involved with international adoptions for over 12 years, and have assisted many families in adopting from Haiti, China, Poland, Bulgaria, Mexico, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

I have assisted adoptive families through the paper work jungle for many years and am very capable of leading you through the proper steps to take in obtaining documents for your dossier and the necessary steps in authenticating and legalizing them as well.  I have traveled extensively to Guatemala and have support staff in Guatemala that will assist you when you travel to bring your child home.  I am very hands-on and committed to providing truthful and accurate information during the Guatemalan adoption process.  I make frequent trips to Guatemala to insure the quality of care your child is receiving and to obtain status reports of the progress of your adoption case.

left aligned imageDenise Weinrich is a single adoptive mom to two children from Guatemala, Abby who is 10 years old and Nico who is 4 years old. She started the adoption process in 1995, before the Internet was an information gathering tool. Abby was 9 months old when she came home and Nico was 4 months old. Denise worked at Target for 16 years and was instrumental in taking Target from customer service to guest service. She was a Guest Service Manager as well as a Human Resource Manager. She has a degree in non profit management from the University of Missouri-St Louis.

She founded a list serv and chat group for Children of the World to support others in the adoption process. She also founded a list serv for single people interested and/or adopting from Guatemala called Single Adoptive Guatemala. This group now has over 550 members. In her 11 years in the adoption world, she has supported many other families with her encouragement and with her experience.

Denise considers Guatemala her second home. She hosted a Guatemalan exchange student and since doing so, the student's family has become part of her family. She and her children have made trips to Guatemala to spend time with the exchange student and family. They have also been able to spend time with the children's foster families. She is looking forward to adding many more members to her adoptive "family"! Denise will be volunteering to be a mentoring mom.

left aligned imageCory Scurlock is a single mom who brought her daughter home in June 2005. Cory has knowledge about the adoption process and enjoys helping others who are just starting out. She truly feels that helping families bring their child home is her calling. Cory was able to spend some time sightseeing in Guatemala while visiting her daughter and during the pickup trip. She feels very connected and protective of the people and culture of Guatemala. She looks forward to teaching her daughter about her beautiful birth country.

Cory has a background in education including a Master of Arts in Teaching. While she is not in the classroom now, helping children is a passion and she cannot think of a better way to help then through adoption.

Cory looks forward to supporting families through the adoption process and helping them prepare for their life as a family by volunteering to be a mentoring mom.

left aligned imagePam Murphy and her husband Carl are raising their family in the same town that she was born and raised in, Fairbanks, Alaska. They have been married for 7 years and have two Guatemala born children. Madelyn Tania and Rylen Jorge are both 4 years old, but Maddy covets the role of older sister as she is 15 days older than her "little" brother Rylen. Rounding out the family is Pam's mother Lovern whom lives with them. Most of Pam's background revolves around customer relations.

Her unique managerial style and strong work ethic have earned her many awards and recognition from Corporate companies, family owned, as well as her own home based businesses. Although the monetary rewards are nice, Pam has always felt the biggest reward has come from her interaction with her clients and the friendships that were forged. For the past 8 years, Pam has been working part time as an office manager for an electrical apprenticeship school. She enjoys the fact that she has a flexible schedule allowing her to both spend more time with her family as well as helping others grow their families through adoption.

It was in 2001 that Pam first became acquainted with Guatemalan adoptions as that is when the Murphys began their journey to Maddy, their first child. Maddy came home at the age of 8 mos. in 2002. During the latter part of 2003 the Murphys began the journey to their 2nd child. In May of 2005 Rylen Jorge joined the Murphy family at the age of 3 years old. During their 2nd adoption journey the Murphys experienced some painful events. It was through these unfortunate happenings that Pam became passionate about helping others through their adoption journeys. She began to assist families with information on the process, as well as giving support and inspiration whenever needed. The painful events from her 2nd journey, as difficult as they were to cope with, have given her valuable knowledge and perspective to share with other families. Her wish is for no other families to have to experience the pain her family has, but if by chance any difficulties occur she will be there to help them through by volunteering as a mentoring mom.
